Day 4: Free day in Rome + Optional Visit to the Vatican

Today you get to explore centuries worth of culinary perfection, unbelievable architecture, and local fashion on your own. And let it be said, Rome looks goooood for being 2,000 years old. (It must moisturize.) Shop, eat, drink, and talk like an Italian (with your hands) during your free day. Embrace the culture and indulge in carbs during your last day in the Eternal City.

Free Time Suggestions
Piazza Navona: Head over to Piazza Navona, one of Rome’s best known public squares. Fountains, street performers, shops, restaurants, and so much more. Hangout, sip coffee, and embrace the atmosphere of this outdoor hub.
Trevi Fountain: Rumor has it, if turn your back to the Trevi Fountain and toss a coin over your shoulder, it guarantees you’ll return to the Eternal City. Throw in a second coin, and you’ll not only come back, but also find love. (Significant other not guaranteed by EF Ultimate Break.)

A Visit to the Vatican(extra cost)

Hey MTV Cribs, welcome to the Pope’s house: Vatican City. Skip all the lines (you’re welcome) and take a guided tour of the Vatican Museum and get your Intro to Art History up close and personal. Make like Michelangelo and crane your neck in the Sistine Chapel to get a glimpse of the single most famous painting of two fingers touching ever made. Let the neck craning continue as you tour St. Peter’s Basilica and gawk at its iconic dome. A great excuse to go to church, and an even better excuse to make a massage appointment when you get home.

Day 5: Travel to Naples Region via Pompeii

As you make your way to the Naples Region, join a local guide for a walking tour of the ancient city of Pompeii, which stands frozen in time after Mt. Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD, completely destroying the town.

Today's Highlights:

  • Travel back to imperial Roman times and learn about Pompeii, the city covered in volcanic ash.
  • Look up at Mt. Vesuvius, the deadly volcano that annihilated this city almost 2,000 years ago.

Travel by funicular to the ancient island resort of Capri, then board a cruise and take in the awesome views of the island’s coast. You’ll see the Arco Naturale, a huge stone arch on the eastern cliffs, and the famous Faraglioni, three enormous limestone rocks that loom out of the sea. (If weather conditions don’t permit a cruise, you’ll instead explore the scenic towns of Capri and Anacapri with your guide.)

Why wait? Save money by booking this optional excursion before your trip departs.

Day 7: Explore the Amalfi Coast + Overnight Ferry to Corfu

The Amalfi Coast is a 30+ mile stretch of coastline that happens to be pure Italian perfection—quaint towns, high cliffs towering over crashing Mediterranean waves, and enchanting views that never end. Today, you get to see al of it for yourself. Ready your camera, make room in your stomach for cake, and don’t even think about blinking. Okay you can blink. But quickly—you don’t want to miss this.

Today's Highlights:

  • Travel by bus along the picturesque Amalfi Coast with a local guide.
  • Enjoy a guided walking tour as you make your way to the hilltop town of Ravello.

Welcome to Corfu, an island that boasts an abundance of green trees, pristine beaches, and 6,000 species of herbs and flowers. Attention all martini lovers: this place is for you. Because what sets Corfu apart from other Greek islands are the olive trees. 16th century Venetians started planting them, and now there are said to be 3-4 million of them on the island.

Today's Highlights:

  • Feel that sweet, sweet middle school nostalgia as you learn that in Homer’s epic poem, Odysseus washed ashore on this very island.
  • Settle in, and head out to explore the city of Corfu with your Tour Director.
  • Check out Spianada Square, the largest square in Greece, and lay your eyes on Achilleion, a big ol’ summer palace built for an Austrian empress in 1888.

Day 9: Free Day in Corfu

The energy of Corfu is contagious—locals flood the streets, kids whizz by on their bikes, and the smells and sounds from restaurants fill your senses. Today you’re on your own to do as you wish.

Free Time Suggestions
Old Fortress: Palaio Frourio was built in the 15th century to protect the Venetians from the Ottomans, and now it’s the perfect place to travel back in time and snap a few good selfies.
Paleokastritsa Monastery: This place is a whole lot harder to pronounce than it is to find. And once you do find it, sitting on top of a green hill near Paleokastritsa Beach, head into the complex where you can explore the church, garden, and museum.

Day 10: Free Day in Corfu or Optional Paxos Cruise and Blue Caves

Today is all about options. You can stay in Corfu to do some more exploring and beach hanging, or you could join the optional cruise excursion to Paxos and the Blue Caves. No matter what you choose to do, you’re in paradise, so it’s sure to be a great day.

Free Time Suggestions
Old Town: Walk through Corfu’s Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, full of quaint cobblestone streets (leave the stilettos at home) and pastel-colored buildings.
The beach: Pick a beach, any beach. Seriously, with 130+ miles of coastline, you have a lot to choose from. And they’re all beautiful. The most popular are Paleokastritsa Beach, Ipsos Beach, Dassia Beach, Canal D'Amour (Channel of Love).

Paxos Cruise and Blue Caves(extra cost)

Time to get out on the water for the day. Departing from Corfu port, you’ll begin by taking in the views of Old Town, Kanoni peninsula, and the palace of Mon Repos, where Queen Elizabeth’s husband, Prince Philip, was born. Then cruise by the island of Paxos, through breathtaking sea caves. Give everyone your best mermaid/merman impression during a swim, and if there’s still time, you

Why wait? Save money by booking this optional excursion before your trip departs.

Day 11: Travel to Delphi

Pick up the pace as you travel back to the mainland, to Delphi. According to Greek mythology, Zeus sent two eagles to discover the center of the world, and they landed in Delphi. Today, it is a fascinating look into the past, and a great excuse to up your Greek mythology trivia game. Beginning in the 6th century BC, Delphi began hosting the Pythian Games, similar to the Olympic Games, but with more emphasis on art and dance (i.e. more feelings).

Today's Highlights:

  • Ferry back to the mainland, then hop aboard a bus towards Delphi.
  • Visit the Sanctuary of Apollo, once the most important sacred site in Greece and home to the Oracle AKA the guy with all the answers.

  • Gawk at Mount Parnassus, the limestone mountain towering 8,000 feet over the city, which was home to the mythological winged horse, Pegasus.

Day 12: Travel to Athens

Welcome to Athens! 2,500 years ago, it was kind of a happening place, and still is today—with fewer people in togas walking around. It’s a vibrant metropolis, and a perfect jumping-off point for your journey through the Greece. When the sun goes down, expect to see people socializing in the streets. It’s how they roll.

Today's Highlights:

  • Travel by bus from Delphi to Athens.
  • Step back in time in the historic Acropolis of Athens with your local guide.
  • See the Propylaea, the The Panathenaic (Olympic) Stadium, and a bunch of other structures you’ll need your guide’s help to pronounce.
  • Take in incredible panoramic views of Athens from the citadel’s hilltop vantage point, and understand why the ancient city’s name translates to “high city”.

Farewell Dinner
Share some last laughs (and maybe shed a few tears) at an included farewell dinner with the group.

Day 13: Fly Home

Arrivederci, amici!
Translation: Goodbye, friends. Your next destination awaits—home. Before you head to the airport, enjoy your last few moments together. Take one more group photo. Grab that final drink. (Fine, maybe a couple of drinks.) But this isn’t goodbye. It’s “See you later.” The only question is, where?
